The
Beginner Defensive Carbine course is designed for those looking to master the basics of carbine shooting. Whether you're a beginner or simply looking to solidify your fundamentals, this course will enhance your confidence and ability to effectively use your carbine. You'll focus on learning
combat mindset,
tactical reloads, and
proper movement techniques while developing your shooting skills. By the end of this course, you'll be able to
shoot and move while engaging targets effectively.
Detailed Training Schedule
This
8-hour course consists of both
classroom instruction and
range time, all conducted at
Red Dawn Range in
Durango, CO. You'll start from the fundamentals, including the
zeroing of your rifle, and progress to advanced concepts like
combat mindset,
sling use, and
multiple shot delivery techniques. The course allows for individual progress, so whether you're a beginner or intermediate shooter, you'll improve your carbine skills throughout the day.
Core Training Techniques
The course provides comprehensive instruction on
combat shooting techniques. You’ll learn key elements such as
alternate shooting positions,
proper movement techniques,
weapons malfunction drills, and
shooting on the move. Practical drills will include shooting from
standing, kneeling, seated, and
prone positions, along with techniques to engage targets at various distances.
Reactionary competence is built through
simulated scenarios and
initiative-based drills.
What You Need to Bring
Ensure you bring the necessary equipment for this course. You'll need a
carbine (AR-15, AK-47, or similar),
300 rounds of ball ammo, and
at least three magazines. A
single or two-point sling is required for safety.
Eye protection and
electronic hearing protection are mandatory. Dress appropriately for outdoor weather and bring any optional gear such as
knee/elbow pads.
No Prior Experience Required
There are no prerequisites for this course, making it ideal for beginners. The only requirements are a good attitude and a willingness to learn. For students under 16, a parent or guardian is required to attend with the student. The parent must have completed this course and be responsible for the student throughout the session.
