Refine Your Skills with Our Defensive Pistol/CCW Refresher Course
Defensive Pistol/CCW Refresher Overview
The Defensive Pistol/CCW Refresher course is designed for students who’ve already completed the Basic Defensive Pistol/CCW class or received a certificate from another instructor. It mirrors the original course, providing valuable refresher training on firearm safety, handling, and defensive use. This class is ideal for those looking to keep their skills sharp and stay prepared for defensive scenarios.
Class Schedule & Locations
The Defensive Pistol/CCW Refresher class is held in Durango, Colorado, with classroom sessions on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at 590 Florida Rd. Range operations take place at Red Dawn Range on Saturdays, starting at 9:00 AM. The course offers convenient scheduling for busy individuals, while also providing flexibility for prior training certifications.!
Prerequisites & Course Overview
This refresher course is tailored for those who already have a CCW permit or firearm handling certificate. The course exceeds state requirements, based on the NRA Personal Protection In The Home course. It covers critical topics, including the physiological and psychological effects of using deadly force, helping students understand the seriousness of defensive firearm use.
Payment Process & Enrollment
To enroll in the Defensive Pistol/CCW Refresher, send your payment to PO Box 3956, Durango, 81302 by the Monday prior to the class. For returning students, the suggested fee is $85.00. For those with another permit, the cost is $175. A 20% refund is offered for cancellations. Please reach out to Tim for any late registration inquiries.
Class Schedule & Requirements
The refresher course spans two 3.5-hour classroom sessions and a Saturday range operation. For Wednesday’s class, you’ll need your pistol (no ammunition in class). On Thursday, wear loose clothing as physical retention exercises will be conducted. The range qualification on Saturday requires 150 rounds of ammunition, plus hearing and eye protection.
What to Bring
Participants must bring their own handgun (we offer loaners if needed), 150 rounds of ammunition, and protective gear (hearing & eye protection). Dress for the weather, as outdoor range operations can be unpredictable. Sunscreen, bug repellent, and appropriate outdoor clothing are recommended. If unsure about equipment, Tim can provide guidance.
Certification & Outcomes
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive an NRA certificate that proves you’ve met the safe gun handling standards required for the CCW application. This certificate is presented to the Sheriff’s office when applying for your permit. However, the Sheriff’s office will require an additional fee for the CCW permit, not included in the course fee.
Class Size & Flexibility
A minimum of 6 students is required for the refresher course to take place. If this number is not met, the class will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity. For any questions or to confirm late registration, contact Tim directly via email or phone. We also work to accommodate students with special scheduling needs.
